What Does Product Photography Cost in Sydney? (2026 Pricing Guide)
If you’re researching product photography costs in Sydney, you’ve probably noticed that quotes vary wildly. One studio charges $500 for a half day. Another quotes $5,000 for the same brief. So what’s actually driving the difference — and what should you expect to pay?
After 10+ years shooting product and fashion eCommerce content for Australian retail brands, here’s what we know about how product photography is priced in Sydney.
The Main Pricing Models
Day rate / studio hire
Most Sydney studios charge by the day or half day. Rates typically range from $800–$1,500 for a half day and $1,500–$3,500 for a full day, depending on the studio, crew, and what’s included. This usually covers the photographer, lighting, and studio space — but not always retouching.
Per-image pricing
For high-volume eCommerce shoots (packshots, flat lays), some studios price per final image. Rates range from $15–$60 per image depending on complexity, turnaround time, and post-production included. This model works well when you have a large, consistent product range.
Project-based quotes
For campaign shoots, on-model work, or anything involving multiple scenes, locations, or talent, studios typically provide a custom project quote. This is the most common model for fashion brands.
What Affects Your Quote
Number of products and shots
The more SKUs and angles you need, the longer the shoot takes. A 50-product shoot at two angles each is a full day. The same products at four angles each is two days.
On-model vs. product only
Adding a model significantly increases costs — you’re now factoring in model fees ($500–$2,000+ per day), styling, hair and makeup, and additional shoot time. On-model content costs roughly 2–3x more than product-only shoots.
Retouching and post-production
Basic retouching (colour correction, background removal) is often included. More advanced work — skin retouching, composite images, clipping paths — is usually quoted separately. Always confirm what’s included before you sign off.
Turnaround time
Rush jobs cost more. Standard turnaround in Sydney is 5–10 business days for retouched images. Need them in 48 hours? Expect a premium.
Location vs. studio
On-location shoots involve travel, logistics, and less control over lighting conditions. Most brands get better consistency and value from a purpose-built studio environment — especially for eCommerce content that needs to look uniform across a product range.
What You Should Ask Before Booking
- Is retouching included, and to what level?
- What’s the turnaround time for final images?
- Is there a minimum spend or minimum number of products?
- What happens if the shoot runs over time?
- Do you provide a shot list template?
